What if 3D printing was 100x faster? | Joseph DeSimone

What we think of as 3D printing, says Joseph DeSimone, is really just 2D printing over and over … slowly. Onstage at TED2015, he unveils a bold new technique — inspired, yes, by Terminator 2 — that’s 25 to 100 times faster, and creates smooth, strong parts. Could it finally help to fulfill the tremendous promise of 3D printing?

I'm so lost trying to understand how this works
What if the title were grammatically correct?
Totally unambitious just print with ducts in the plastic and also grow it on parts that are already grown. Don't just grow out of a puddle but apply pressure on the liquid and bam Actual 3d printing.
WHO IS GOING TO HAVE A JOB TO BUY ANYTHING IN THIS MEANS OF PRODUCTION. ?
I feel so dumb
It's all fun and games until it 3d prints your search history.
Okay, 2020 now, so where are these machines that prints 100 times faster than a traditional 3D printer, and are not extremely expensive?
Прошло 5 лет и …..?
Aight lemme print a grey Nissan
Printer: oUt Of CyaN
Watching this in July 2020. What's the update?
SLS?
What if inkjets were not stupid and stop working on me. What if the ink cartridges were not stupidly overpriced. What if the ink wasn’t empty after 20 pages!
btw, 5 years later: we have both. What he suggested, known as resin printers (idk if its 100% what he described, but its very similar) and the traditional fdm printers, that lay plastic sausages ontop of each other.
fdm printers even have some advantages over resin ones.
더우기 뭐야.. 오타인 줄 알았는데 두 번 나왔어.. 더우기라니….
Who’s watching after NNDM stocks went up?
Surely the combination of the tech in this video and the similar idea of 3D printing of organs would work much better – for reference see this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUj1-cPaFgo
I like to 3D print AR-15 parts with a carbon fiber printer
This is one of the few tech talks where the product ACTUALLY is available and becoming more popular….
Does anybody know if this is available for purchase anywhere yet?
2015's finest snake oil
Well, it's been 5 years. I reckon there was something he didn't tell us, like its 200x more expensive, and that's why it isn't everywhere now.

They want too much for the technology. It took me 6.5 hours to print a N95 mask with an Ender 3 printer. There wanting to lease this machine for $40,000 a year. They would make more money if they would license the technology to other 3D manufacturers.
finally a crowd that doesn't go crazy when u throw something at them
can we eventually make vaccines from this?
Hopefully they will stop creating so much crud food that they wont have to print off stents for emergencies involving so many strokes. Accidents are different stories like slices and such.
looks like a first-generation outdated Westworld tech.
https://youtu.be/Cb8luHdpR84 man darf gespannt sein, bald ist es soweit ❤️🧠
We can now make weapons faster.
Okay, so it's just SLA printing, right? What am I missing?
Where can I buy one
basically the Carbon M1
how is it not out yet
"3d printing is a misnomer, It is not actually 3d printing, it is 2d printing all over again".
So… cube is also a misnomer, because it is actually a square all over again for times of length of one of its sides.
3D printing -> To print 3D (not printing with 3D)
Milk drinking -> To drink milk ( not drinking with milk )
Bird hunting -> To hunt birds ( not hunting with birds )
Is Milk drinking misnomer because it doesn't tell that are drinking it through straw, straight from bottle or from titty.
